Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar faced a setback in Darbhanga when the district administration denied permission for an overnight stay at Jeevachghat High School. The initial plan to utilize the school premises for the night’s rest was rejected because of the potential for disrupting the school’s academic activities. The administration cited the school’s primary function as an educational institution.
Consequently, the overnight stay has been relocated to the Fakhruddin Teacher Training College campus. The change of location required seeking permission from the Social Welfare Department, but due to non-approval from the department, the venue shifted to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Teachers Training College. Dr. Madan Mohan Jha, a Congress leader, verified these changes, confirming that the yatra will continue as planned, arriving in Darbhanga on the evening of August 26th and including the overnight stay.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Darbhanga at 7 p.m. on August 26th. The overnight stay will be held at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Teachers Training College campus, near NH-27 in Darbhanga, with the yatra resuming from there on the morning of August 27th. The yatra will proceed towards Muzaffarpur through NH-27, passing through several areas, including Gausaghat, Gangwara, Kathalbari, Bhandar Chowk, Bela Mod, Bagh Mod, Kadirabad Shivdhara, and the Bazaar Samiti.
Former Congress President and program in-charge, Madan Mohan Jha, stated the earlier plan involved Jeevachghat School, but administrative permission was denied due to the school’s function, so the program will now be held at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Teachers Training College campus and the adjoining land.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to join the Voter Rights Yatra, with her Darbhanga schedule confirmed, though the final itinerary will be released one day before her visit. On August 27th, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is also expected to participate.
The Voter Rights Yatra was launched by Rahul Gandhi on August 17th in Rohtas, Bihar. The main objectives of the yatra include challenging alleged voter fraud and promoting a clean voter list. Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD and Mukesh Sahni of the VIP party are also participating in the yatra. During the yatra, Rahul Gandhi has been critical of the central government and the Election Commission. The yatra is scheduled to end on September 1st with a rally in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
