Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticized the opposition, claiming that they are planning to govern even from jail. The context of these remarks was the opposition’s response to the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill. Shah alleged that they aim to transform prisons into centers of power, where CMs, PMs, and high-ranking officials would be under the direction of imprisoned leaders. These statements were made during an interview with ANI, where Shah spoke in detail about the newly introduced “The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill.”
Shah stated: “Even today, they are trying that if they ever go to jail, they will easily form the government from jail. The jail will be made CM House, PM House and the DGP, Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretary or Home Secretary will take orders from the jail,”. He also expressed his confidence that the bill will be passed in Parliament, highlighting the moral support he anticipates from the Congress party and other opposition members. The 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, alongside the Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Parliament Monsoon Session. According to the bill, individuals holding crucial constitutional positions such as Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers will be prohibited from running the government while incarcerated. The bill allows for the possibility of bail within 30 days; if bail is not secured, the individual will be removed from their position. If bail is granted after this period, they may resume their role.
