Lohardaga witnessed enthusiastic celebrations of Teej, a festival dedicated to marital bliss and devotion. Married women observed the Teej fast with deep devotion, praying to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for their husbands’ long lives and good fortune. The women observed a full-day, waterless fast and participated in devotional prayers. Preparations for the festival commenced early in the morning in both urban and rural settings, with widespread arrangements for prayers. Priests facilitated the observances, recounting the legend of Haritalika Teej and guiding the women through the rituals. The mythological significance of Haritalika Teej revolves around the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to the narrative, Goddess Parvati performed rigorous penance in the forest to obtain Lord Shiva as her spouse in her next life. Consequently, Lord Shiva, pleased with her devotion, blessed her, and the festival marks their union. Married women continue to observe this fast with complete rituals for the long and prosperous lives of their husbands.
