Known for his explosive batting style, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is now working as a commentator. His son, Aryaveer Sehwag, is currently part of Central Delhi Kings in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. Aryaveer, during an interview, shared an interesting story about his father. He mentioned that when Virender Sehwag was playing international cricket, he felt that people, including himself, didn’t fully appreciate his father’s greatness. Sehwag would often say, ‘You think I’m just average, like any other player. You’ll only understand when you get onto the field.’ Aryaveer discussed his growing respect for his father’s achievements in the interview.
Aryaveer, in his interview, stated, ‘My father used to say, ‘You think I’m just average; you’ll understand when you play professional cricket.’ Now I understand how great my father was.’ He noted that after playing professional cricket for a couple of years, he began to truly appreciate his father’s skill. Aryaveer also talked about his childhood, recalling how he and his brother would play cricket with plastic bats and balls, and their father always encouraged them to play to the best of their abilities.
He also reminisced about an IPL match. Aryaveer mentioned that during the early IPL seasons, they would go to the matches held in Delhi. In those days, his father, Virender Sehwag, played for the Delhi Daredevils. He recalled how they were often disappointed to find that his father had already been out by the time they reached the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Kotla Stadium). Aryaveer, though not yet playing in the DPL 2025, is a batting opener just like his father, known for his quick scoring.
Central Delhi Kings bought Aryaveer Sehwag, aged 17, for ₹8 lakh this season. Despite not having played any matches yet, there is a buzz around his power-hitting abilities.
