
A case of theft has come to light in Nahanda village, Balod, where an elderly woman, who makes a living through begging, suffered a loss of 2.54 lakh rupees due to a robbery at her home. The unfortunate incident happened while the woman was away celebrating the Teej festival. An unknown individual took advantage of her absence and committed the crime. The Deori police have begun an investigation after receiving the victim’s complaint.
Amrit Vaishnav, a resident of Nahanda village, explained that she sustains herself through begging, as she has no children. She makes her living by begging in different villages. On July 29, 2024, she sold a part of her house to Jitendra Patel for 2.50 lakh rupees. In addition, she had 4,000 rupees that she had collected through begging. She kept the entire amount inside a steel box within a trunk in her house, which was secured with two locks.
The woman said that on August 25, 2025, at around 3 pm, she locked the main door of her house and went to the home of Home Giri Maharaj in Piparkhar village to celebrate Teej. On August 27, when she returned at 4 pm, she found the main door’s lock broken. Upon entering, she discovered that the two locks on the trunk, along with their latches, had been broken, and the 2.50 lakh rupees and 4,000 rupees were missing.
After learning about the incident, Amrit Vaishnav informed the people in the area and the village Kotwar. She then filed a complaint at Deori police station. According to station in-charge Rakesh Thakur, a case has been filed against the unknown thief. The police visited the crime scene and have initiated an investigation.
