Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ is poised to make its digital debut on Prime Video after its theatrical run. While the exact release date remains under wraps, industry insiders predict an October or November 2025 launch, reflecting the typical timeframe of 45 to 60 days between theatrical and OTT releases.
The film features Rajinikanth alongside Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat, with a cameo from Aamir Khan. ‘Coolie’ is a production of Kalanithi Maran, under the banner of Sun Pictures, and is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The storyline follows Deva, a former gold smuggler now working as a coolie, attempting to reclaim his former status by reviving his old gang, utilizing stolen technology concealed within vintage golden watches, which leads to unintended consequences.
The film also gained attention for its ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its violent content, a contrast to Lokesh’s previous films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ which received ‘U/A’ certifications.
In related news, Rajinikanth is rumored to be reuniting with Lokesh Kanagaraj for another film, potentially a gangster drama featuring Kamal Haasan. The project is expected to be produced by Kamal Haasan’s production house, with a narrative centered on the complexities of aging gangsters.
