In the lead-up to the Vice Presidential election, the opposition’s candidate, B. Sudarshan Reddy, is actively seeking support from all Members of Parliament. Reddy emphasized the need to uphold the election’s integrity. He made the decision to stand for the Vice President’s office due to the current state of the country. He stated that he has spent 45 years protecting the Constitution. Reddy met with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to secure his support and said that the Preamble is the soul of the constitution. The Supreme Court has the responsibility to protect it. He mentioned the arrest of Hemant Soren, assigning responsibility to constitutional bodies. He raised concerns about the process of updating voter lists, specifically regarding additions and removals. Reddy has written to all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, requesting their support, and plans to reach out to top BJP leaders. He honored Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. He said he would address the 130th Amendment Bill after the Joint Committee’s report. He also avoided addressing questions about the appointment of judges through the collegium system, suggesting it would require a separate conversation. His aim is to ensure the Vice Presidential election is conducted with constitutional principles and maintains its dignity. Reddy also made clear that he would not let the Constitution’s dignity fall. When asked about the former governor’s role in the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Reddy declined to provide any personal comments.
