As the Indian team gears up for the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, commencing on September 9th, a significant update has emerged. The Indian team is slated to play their first match on September 10th. Before the tournament, players chosen for the Asia Cup may be required to undergo a specialized fitness assessment in Dubai. This fitness test is a recent initiative by the BCCI to evaluate the fitness levels of the players.
The BCCI has recently incorporated the Bronco test to assess the fitness of the Indian team members. Adrian Le Roux, the strength and conditioning coach for the team, suggested the Bronco test in addition to existing methods like the Yo-Yo test. Many Indian players were thought to be at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in preparation for the Bronco test, but reports indicate the Bronco test was not carried out there.
According to the reports, the Bronco test for the Asia Cup 2025 participants may take place in Dubai. The Indian team is scheduled to travel to Dubai on September 4th and will have its first training session at the ICC Academy on September 5th. It is anticipated that the players will undergo the test then. The Bronco test requires a player to begin with a 20-meter shuttle run, then continue with 40-meter and 60-meter runs. These distances constitute a set. Players are expected to complete five sets (totaling 1200 meters) without breaks.
The Asia Cup 2025 will include a total of 19 matches. India’s first match will be against the UAE on September 10th. The team will then face Pakistan on September 14th. The final group stage match for India will be against Oman on September 19th. The Super 4 stage will follow, potentially featuring another India-Pakistan match.
