According to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, India is poised to express remorse and negotiate a trade agreement with the United States. Lutnick believes that India understands its dependence on the US market. In a recent interview, Lutnick drew a comparison with Canada’s decision to pursue a deal with the US after assessing its economic position. Lutnick predicted that India would soon be prepared to negotiate, offering an apology and seeking a trade deal with Donald Trump, with the details to be determined by Trump and his approach to Modi. These remarks follow former US President Donald Trump’s statement on Truth Social, where he suggested that the US had ‘lost’ India and Russia to China. Trump’s comments came after India, Russia, and China participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Tianjin. Accompanying the statement was an older photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Prior to this, Trump had accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of allegedly conspiring against America, citing the attendance of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin at China’s major military parade.
