Donald Trump reacted to his own social media post where he suggested the US had ceded influence over India and Russia to China. Speaking at the White House, Trump stated that he does not believe the US has lost either nation. He expressed his disappointment in India’s purchase of Russian oil. Trump also mentioned the 50% tariffs the United States has levied on Indian goods. Trump, who has previously met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that he has a good relationship with him. The comments come after a joint meeting involving representatives from India, Russia, and China. Earlier in the day, Peter Navarro, also criticized India’s trade practices and accused India of profiting from Russian oil. White House Economic Advisor Kevin Hassett echoed these sentiments, noting disappointment regarding India’s continued imports of Russian crude oil. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs declined to comment on Trump’s remarks but said it will continue to engage with the US on trade issues.
