Security forces in Jharkhand continue to make strides in combating Naxalism. In a recent operation in the Chaibasa area of West Singhbhum district, a significant encounter resulted in the death of Amit Hansda, a Zonal Commander and a wanted Naxal. The Jharkhand government had offered a reward of 10 lakh rupees for any information leading to his capture. An SLR rifle and other items were recovered from the site of the encounter. The operation was launched based on intelligence received by the Chaibasa SP, indicating that Naxalites were assembling near Relaparal village in the Goilkera police station area, allegedly planning a major incident. Upon approaching the village, security forces were met with gunfire, and a retaliatory response led to the death of Amit Hansda. He was identified at the scene and was known to be deeply involved in Naxal activities. His death represents a major success for the police and paramilitary forces, expected to demoralize the Naxal groups and disrupt their operations. The area has been cordoned off, and a thorough search operation is ongoing. This encounter is the latest in a series of successful operations, following the killing of Martin Kerketta, the PLFI supremo, in Gumla district on August 6th.
