The Nepalese government has reversed its decision to ban social media apps in response to protests, largely driven by Gen Z, that descended into violent confrontations with the police. The Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, made the announcement and requested that Gen Z protesters end their actions. The cabinet meeting was held in response to the growing unrest. Before the reversal, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli had been firm on upholding the ban despite the protests that claimed 19 lives. Following the lift of the ban, PM Oli addressed the public regarding the regulations the government will put in place.
