The Vice Presidential election is slated for Tuesday, with CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s candidate, positioned as the frontrunner against Justice B Sudershan Reddy, the opposition’s nominee. The NDA anticipates a victory due to its majority in the electoral college. Voting will take place within the Parliament, and the outcome is expected to be revealed in the evening. Prior to the election, both the ruling and opposition alliances conducted mock polls to ensure the MPs are fully aware of the voting protocols. Prime Minister Modi expressed his support for Radhakrishnan, emphasizing his expected contributions to the office. Kiren Rijiju conveyed his confidence that Radhakrishnan will receive votes surpassing the NDA’s strength, due to potential cross-party support. PM Modi addressed the NDA MPs, referencing recent legislation and advocating for a self-reliant India. The INDIA bloc held a mock exercise to prevent invalid ballots. The BJD and BRS parties will not participate in the election, with the BRS protesting over the urea shortage issue impacting farmers in Telangana.
