Sushila Karki has been sworn in as the Interim Prime Minister of Nepal, as the nation continues to grapple with political instability. Her new role is a critical effort to stabilize the government during this period of transition. The oath was administered by President Ramchandra Paudel. Notably, no ministers have been included in Karki’s interim cabinet. Karki, a jurist and former Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, was chosen by the Gen Z movement. Karki was the only woman to serve as Chief Justice, commencing her service on July 11, 2016. An impeachment motion, filed by the Maoist Centre and the Nepali Congress, was initiated in Parliament in 2017. However, it was later withdrawn due to public pressure and an interim directive issued by the Supreme Court.
