Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement about Jawaharlal Nehru during a public gathering in Assam has created a political controversy. PM Modi stated that the actions of former Prime Minister Nehru during the 1962 Chinese incursion continue to affect the people of Assam. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera reacted to these remarks by sharing a post on the social media platform X. Khera’s post included excerpts from Jawaharlal Nehru’s address to the nation on November 19, 1962. In this address, Nehru had expressed support for Assam and the entire North-East region. Khera implied that the Prime Minister should be aware of the historical context before making such remarks and questioned the veracity of the Prime Minister’s statements.
During the event in Assam’s Darrang district, where projects worth 6300 crore rupees were unveiled, PM Modi commended the Assam BJP government. He stated that the administration is focused on correcting the past mistakes of the Congress government, including actions taken on illegal land claims. He alleged that during the previous Congress regime, there was encroachment on farmers’ land and religious sites, and the BJP government has begun to address this.
PM Modi also highlighted the government’s actions against infiltrators, claiming that the BJP government has recovered a significant amount of land from infiltrators. He reiterated the BJP’s objective to safeguard the nation from infiltration, and claimed that the government is successfully fulfilling this duty. Additionally, he challenged those who support infiltrators and stated that the country would hold accountable those who provide them shelter.
