The Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sachet’ arrived in Mombasa, Kenya, on Wednesday, September 17th, commencing a four-day visit. This visit aims to enhance maritime collaboration between India and Kenya, and to further the shared vision of secure seas.
The visit will include joint activities between the Indian Coast Guard and the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS), encompassing joint exercises, capacity-building programs, demonstrations of pollution control measures, sports competitions, and joint yoga sessions. These initiatives are designed to foster greater mutual understanding and cooperation, thereby strengthening the bond between the two countries.
Joint exercises will be held between the military forces of both nations. The visit will culminate in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea, allowing both countries’ armed forces to practice working together to improve operational effectiveness. ‘Sachet’s’ visit represents the growing relationship between India and Kenya, and underscores their dedication to maritime security and cooperation.
The visit reflects India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy, under which India is collaborating with nations in the Indian Ocean and Africa to promote maritime security, safeguard trade routes, and foster the blue economy.
After Mombasa, the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sachet’ will continue its journey to Cape Town, South Africa. This reflects India’s commitment to creating a secure and prosperous maritime future through partnerships with countries that share similar values. ‘Sachet’ is an important ship that has been involved in several humanitarian and security operations. It is integral to maritime security and search and rescue missions. India is continually working to improve its military capabilities and strengthen its defense ties with other countries.
