Pakistan and Saudi Arabia entered into a defense agreement on September 17, 2025, solidifying their commitment to mutual defense. Under the terms of the agreement, an attack on one country will be regarded as an attack on both, triggering a unified response. The signing of the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement occurred during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Riyadh, at Al-Yamama Palace, where he was received by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
The agreement, as outlined in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, underscores that aggression against either nation will be considered an attack on both. A joint statement issued after the signing highlighted the historical partnership, brotherhood, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests that have long defined the relationship between the two nations.
