In a digital meeting, JDU rebel MLA Dr. Sanjeev expressed his critical views on the caste census conducted in Bihar. He questioned the rationale behind it, arguing that knowing someone’s caste provides no significant benefit. Instead, he proposed that an economic census would be more meaningful and useful. Dr. Sanjeev, known for his independent stance, stated that he has no personal issues with Nitish Kumar, but he does not support anyone else in the JDU after Kumar.
Dr. Sanjeev emphasized that to make a strong point, one must have a strong character. He speaks firmly because he believes in the truth and is not afraid to speak it. This has resulted in him facing various challenges.
He pointed out that certain individuals within his party are trying to create discord. He clarified that he has no issues with Nitish Kumar, who was a close associate of his father, and supported his entry into politics. He believes that some party members are uncomfortable with his efforts in his constituency, where he frequently raises important issues.
Dr. Sanjeev also highlighted the issues faced by farmers in Bihar, which affect people of all castes. He stated that receipts have not been issued in many places for the past nine years, causing significant hardship to farmers. They are not receiving compensation for crop damage or benefits under the PM Awas Yojana. He has been raising these issues since 2021 and met with the Governor to find solutions.
He further questioned the government’s recent actions, such as providing funds to laborers for Durga Puja, which he felt should have been done much earlier. He also criticized the handling of floods in the state, stating that no audits are conducted despite significant spending. He suggested that connecting rivers could solve the issue but is not being done because it would prevent the misuse of public funds.
Regarding the caste census, Dr. Sanjeev asked what its purpose was. He believes it is senseless and that there is no value in knowing people’s castes. He opposes it and has no plans to retire from politics. He questioned what the census has accomplished, highlighting that people in villages are still struggling with employment and no improvements in living standards. He believes that Bihar has become a labor-exporting state.
