Bangladesh was struck by an earthquake on Friday, with significant shaking reported in Dhaka and Chittagong. The earthquake measured a magnitude of 7.7. The epicenter was located in Myanmar, near the border with Bangladesh. There have been no reports of casualties so far. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department stated that the earthquake occurred at 12:25 PM local time, with its origin in Mandalay, Myanmar. The distance from the epicenter to Dhaka was approximately 597 kilometers. This was a major seismic event. The USGS reported the earthquake’s epicenter was 16 kilometers north-northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 kilometers, which is why it was felt across numerous parts of Bangladesh.
