In a move to bolster the interim government, Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki has inducted five new ministers. This addition brings the cabinet’s total membership to nine. President Ramchandra Paudel, acting on Karki’s advice, appointed Anil Kumar Sinha, Mahabir Pun, Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, Jagdish Kharel, and Madan Pariyar to ministerial posts, as stated by sources from the Presidential Office.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed ministers will take place at the Presidential Palace today. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce will be helmed by Anil Kumar Sinha, while Mahabir Pun will take charge of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra is set to lead the Ministry of Health and Population, with Jagdish Kharel in charge of the Ministry of Information and Communication, and Madan Pariyar overseeing the Ministry of Agriculture. The cabinet now consists of nine ministers, including the Prime Minister, who retains several critical portfolios.
Dr. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, previously an Additional Secretary, has been appointed to the Ministry of Health and Population. She resigned from her previous position on Sunday to become a minister. Mahabir Pun, the chairman of the Rashtriya Aavishkar Kendra, will assume the role of Minister of Education, Science, and Technology. Jagdish Kharel, a senior journalist who formerly served as the news head at Image Media Group, will take on the Ministry of Communication, Information, and Technology.
Madan Pariyar will be responsible for the Ministry of Agriculture, while Anil Kumar Sinha, a former judge, will oversee the Ministry of Industry and Land Reforms. With these appointments, the cabinet now includes nine ministers, including the interim Prime Minister. Sushila Karki has retained control over numerous important ministries.
Sushila Karki took on the responsibilities of interim Prime Minister on September 12. Her appointment followed the collapse of the KP Sharma Oli government, which was brought down by GEN-Z led protests related to corruption and social media limitations. The interim government will remain in power until the general elections on March 5. After assuming office, Karki appointed Kulma Ghising, Rameswar Khanal, and Om Prakash Aryal as the Ministers of Energy, Finance, and Home Affairs, respectively.
