S. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a bilateral meeting on Monday to discuss various bilateral and international issues. The leaders agreed on the importance of sustained engagement to address priority areas. Their discussion, which occurred during the UNGA session, represents their first face-to-face interaction since trade tensions surfaced due to US tariffs on Indian goods and the purchase of Russian oil. India and the US are working towards a trade agreement, with negotiations led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Prior meetings included the 10th Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in July and an earlier meeting in January.
