A Chhattisgarh High Court has approved a divorce based on the wife’s repeated use of the phrase ‘pet hamster’ to address her husband, and her continuous insistence on residing separately from his family. This decision sets a precedent regarding family dynamics within a joint household. The couple, residents of Raipur, had a marriage that began well but soured over time. The husband and wife have a son. The husband sought legal recourse, alleging cruelty and desertion. The husband stated that his wife often fought with him, using the offensive term ‘pet hamster’. He also mentioned his wife’s persistent demands to separate from his elderly parents, and the wife’s use of offensive language. The husband felt his mental peace was shattered.
