Akshay Kumar’s journey to becoming a Bollywood star is a testament to his hard work and perseverance. Before making his mark in the industry, Kumar worked various jobs and trained in martial arts. However, it was a fellow actor, Govinda, who played a significant role in shaping his career. Kumar shared his story on ‘The Anupam Kher Show.’
Kumar worked as an assistant at a photography studio where prominent actors often came for photoshoots. It was during one such session that Govinda noticed him and suggested he consider acting. Govinda told him, “You look good, why don’t you become a hero?” These words from Govinda prompted Kumar to reconsider his career options. He began looking for opportunities in the film industry.
His initial break came in 1987 with a small role in Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Aaj.’ His first lead role was in ‘Saugandh’ in 1991. Although these initial ventures did not gain much traction, Kumar’s breakthrough arrived in 1992 with ‘Khiladi,’ which was a massive success. The film led to him being known as ‘Khiladi.’ Subsequently, he delivered a string of hit and blockbuster films, cementing his place as one of Bollywood’s top actors. Today, Akshay Kumar is among Bollywood’s highest-paid actors.
