
China is the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide (CO₂), emitting approximately 11.9 billion metric tons in 2023. The United States ranks second with 4.9 billion metric tons, while India is third with 3 billion metric tons. Russia and Japan also contribute significantly, emitting 1.8 and 0.988 billion metric tons, respectively. China’s President Xi Jinping announced plans to reduce carbon emissions by 7-10% by 2035 and increase its wind and solar energy capacity. Former US President Donald Trump criticized the focus on renewable energy, labeling climate change as a ‘hoax.’ Despite decades of debate, climate change continues to worsen, with global temperatures rising and greenhouse gas emissions at record levels.
