A video circulating online captures the moment a slipper was thrown at actor Vijay during a rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The rally, organized by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Vijay, was overshadowed by a stampede that resulted in a tragic loss of life, with at least 36 fatalities. The footage, shared on the social media platform X, shows Vijay addressing the crowd from a bus when the object was thrown. Security personnel moved quickly to intercept the projectile before it could hit the actor. The person responsible was able to escape the scene.
The stampede caused attendees to lose consciousness, prompting immediate medical attention. Investigations are ongoing. V. Senthil Balaji, a former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK leader, reported that 31 people died and 58 were hospitalized.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sadness over the tragic incident, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wishing for a speedy recovery for those injured.
