
The Department of Posts has announced enhancements to its Inland Speed Post (document) service, including changes to tariff rates and the introduction of new features. These changes are scheduled to come into effect on October 1, 2025.
The modifications are aimed at improving the customer experience with several new features designed to increase user trust.
Key additions to the service include:
* **Registration Service:** Speed Post items (documents/parcels) can now be registered, ensuring secure delivery to the intended recipient or an authorized individual. The fee for this service is ₹5 per item plus GST.
* **OTP Verification:** Delivery will only be completed after the recipient verifies an OTP. The cost for this is ₹5 per item + GST.
* **Student Discount:** Students will receive a 10% discount on Speed Post services.
* **Bulk Customer Discount:** New bulk customers are eligible for a 5% discount.
* **SMS Notifications:** SMS-based delivery alerts will be provided.
* **Online Booking:** Online booking for Speed Post services is now available.
* **Real-time Tracking:** Users will be able to track their parcels in real-time.
* **Customer Registration:** A dedicated registration facility will be available for customers.

The government has set new charges based on weight and distance.
* **Up to 50 grams:**
* Local: ₹19
* Up to 200 km: ₹47
* **51 to 250 grams:**
* Local: ₹24
* Up to 200 km: ₹59
* 201–500 km: ₹63
* 501–1000 km: ₹68
* Over 1000 km: ₹77
* **251 to 500 grams:**
* Local: ₹28
* Up to 200 km: ₹70
* 201–500 km: ₹75
* 501–1000 km: ₹82
* 1001–2000 km: ₹86
* Over 2000 km: ₹93
