Following India’s Asia Cup victory over Pakistan, a controversy has erupted regarding the presentation of the trophy. The Indian team refused to accept the trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi due to his dual roles as PCB chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Given the existing tensions between India and Pakistan, the team’s decision was understandable.
The BCCI has expressed its displeasure with Naqvi’s subsequent actions, particularly his decision to keep the trophy instead of arranging an alternative presentation. The BCCI proposed that the trophy be presented by the Emirates Cricket Board’s vice president. However, this was not followed. The BCCI Secretary, Devjit Saikia, has given Naqvi an opportunity to resolve the issue by returning the trophy to the Indian team immediately. The BCCI is ready to take the matter further, possibly by raising the issue at the ICC conference in Dubai in November, which implies that Naqvi has until October to act.
