The 2025 Asia Cup final saw India triumph over Pakistan in a thrilling match in Dubai, winning by five wickets. The victory was overshadowed by a controversial post-match scene. The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, celebrated their win without the trophy, sparking speculation. The Indian players reportedly refused to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who holds the positions of PCB chairman, Pakistan’s interior minister, and ACC chief. Delays ensued when the Pakistan team was late to arrive for the ceremony. Initially, Khalid Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, was expected to present the trophy. Instead, Simon Doull announced that the Indian team would not accept it. Subsequently, Naqvi was seen exiting the stadium. In an interview with The Indian Express, Suryakumar Yadav clarified that the team did not cause any delay and stated that the decision to not participate in the trophy ceremony was made independently, without any direction from the BCCI. Yadav recounted, ‘We didn’t close the door and sit inside the dressing room…We didn’t make anyone wait for the presentation ceremony…They ran away with the trophy…I saw them talking on stage and I don’t know the details of their chat…And then we saw someone who was their representative taking the trophy and running away.’
