A chaotic scene unfolded at a recent Chandigarh Municipal Corporation meeting, marked by heated exchanges and the eventual removal of several councillors by marshals. Opposition councillors protested against the BJP Mayor. The meeting’s proceedings were disrupted when opposition members alleged the Mayor was acting unilaterally. The Mayor defended her actions by citing the behavior of some councillors, who tore the meeting minutes and threw them at her.
Congress and AAP councillors argued that the minutes of the preceding meeting were prepared unfairly. They alleged that their members were unjustly removed by marshals. The atmosphere became increasingly tense as the meeting progressed, with the chaos lasting approximately an hour. The situation worsened when Congress councillors tore copies of the previous meeting’s minutes and threw them at the Mayor. Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla responded by ordering the expulsion of the disruptive councillors. Along with the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor Jasvir Singh Banti, Deputy Mayor Tarun Mehta, and councillor Premlata were also instructed to leave the House due to their involvement in the incident, resulting in increased disorder. The proceedings were briefly suspended for 10 minutes while order was restored.
