In a landmark move for India’s private sector, helicopter manufacturing is set to commence within the country. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), in partnership with Airbus, will establish a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemgal, Karnataka, dedicated to producing the H125 helicopter. This project is poised to revitalize the civil aviation sector and simultaneously cater to the needs of the armed forces. The Indian Army has long expressed the need for lightweight, multi-purpose helicopters, particularly for operations in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
TASL is committed to executing the entire process, from manufacturing and assembly to integration and final flight testing, entirely within India. The first ‘Make in India’ H125 helicopter deliveries are projected to begin in early 2027. These helicopters are designed to serve crucial roles in emergency medical services, disaster relief, tourism, law enforcement, and passenger transportation.
