The Afghanistan cricket team, after a disappointing Asia Cup 2025, continues to face setbacks, having lost the first T20I against Bangladesh by four wickets. The match saw a costly run-out incident involving Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who then nearly repeated the error.
The Run-Out and the Near Miss
In the first T20I in Sharjah, the Afghan team suffered from a critical blunder. Gurbaz, batting, pushed for a run and initiated a run-out of a fellow batsman, Darwish Rasooli. Then, the very next ball, he nearly made the same mistake.
During the fifth over, Gurbaz attempted a quick run after a shot. Rasooli, at the non-striker’s end, was initially hesitant, but Gurbaz had already committed to the run. Rasooli tried to make it to the other end but was run out. The next ball saw Gurbaz almost repeating the mistake. When Ishaq hit a shot, Gurbaz ran from the non-striker’s end, but Ishaq sent him back. Gurbaz dived to get back safely, narrowly avoiding being run out.
Match Highlights
Although involved in the run-out incident, Gurbaz top-scored for Afghanistan with 40 runs off 31 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Afghanistan scored 151/9 in their 20 overs. Bangladesh successfully chased the target, reaching the required score in 18.4 overs with six wickets down.
