The Bombay High Court has delivered a favorable judgment for Asha Bhosle in a personality rights dispute. The court’s order, issued recently, protects the singer’s personality rights, ensuring that her name, image, and voice are not misused. The ruling specifically addresses the use of artificial intelligence (AI), preventing the unauthorized replication of her voice.
The court maintained that using AI tools to impersonate a celebrity’s voice without their consent violates their personality rights. Justice Arif S. Doctor explained that such AI tools enable the unauthorized appropriation and manipulation of a celebrity’s voice, which is a key aspect of their personal identity and public image.
