On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, a shocking double murder occurred in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. The incident took place in the village of Raykera, under the Ghargoda police station area. Two members of the same family, a mother-in-law and her son-in-law, were found dead inside their home. A female family member was also severely injured. Police have initiated an investigation at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80 years) and her son-in-law, Lakshman Sidar (60 years). It is suspected that both were murdered by strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter was seriously injured and was immediately taken to Tingni Hospital for treatment. Doctors have indicated her condition is critical.
The Ghargoda police station and forensic teams promptly responded to the scene. Based on evidence and the crime scene, police suspect murder. Preliminary investigation suggests the incident occurred late Thursday night. Lakshman Sidar’s son and a neighbor are in custody, being questioned.
Police sources indicate a land compensation dispute could be the motive. Sukmet Sidar recently received compensation from NTPC. Disputes over this money within the family are reported. Police suspect this dispute led to the murders.
Lakshman Sidar had been residing with his in-laws since his marriage. He had a son and two daughters. Financial and property disputes had existed within the family for some time. Villagers report the dispute intensified after the compensation was received.
Police await the post-mortem report for further clarity. No arrests have been made, but three family members are being questioned.
