The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Aditya Sahu, a Rajya Sabha member, as the working president of its Jharkhand unit. Sahu expressed his gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, emphasizing his commitment to the party and the national interest. He promised to serve the BJP with honesty, dedication, and unwavering commitment.
The decision was made by the BJP’s National President, JP Nadda. Sahu replaces Ravindra Kumar Rai, who was appointed last October, ahead of the state assembly elections. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won the elections, defeating the BJP-led NDA. Sahu was subsequently nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 and elected without opposition.
The swift change in leadership, occurring within a year, underscores the party’s efforts to revamp its state unit and bolster its organizational capabilities in the eastern state. Sahu thanked PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other party leaders for their trust in him. Addressing the press in Ranchi, Sahu said, “I have been a BJP worker since 1980 and will continue to serve the party with integrity, commitment, and dedication. The party and the nation will always be my top priority.”
Upon his arrival at the party’s state office in Ranchi, Sahu was greeted by numerous party leaders, who welcomed him. The newly appointed working president expressed his gratitude to the top leaders of the organization and stated that he would fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him by the party’s national president. Recalling his early days, Sahu mentioned his initial involvement in distributing election slips in 1980, a task given to him when he was a matriculation student. He remembered how people feared that other parties would distribute money and buy votes, hence the need for dedicated workers. He was later appointed district vice-president and has held various positions within the organization, including two terms as the general secretary of the Jharkhand BJP. Now, he takes on the role of working state president. The appointment of Aditya Sahu, who belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), is viewed as a strategic move by the BJP’s central leadership to secure the OBC vote bank in Jharkhand. Sahu, a resident of Kunchu village in Ranchi, has been associated with the BJP for over four decades. He is believed to have strong public support. Presently, he serves as a BJP Rajya Sabha MP and also has experience as a teacher for many years.
