The Tata Nexon compact SUV achieved a remarkable milestone in September 2025, securing the position of India’s top-selling passenger vehicle. It outperformed established competitors like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, and Hyundai. The Nexon’s success was highlighted by a record-breaking sale of 22,573 units in September, setting a new benchmark for monthly sales within Tata Motors.
The rise in Nexon sales can be directly linked to the impact of GST 2.0, which resulted in a price reduction of up to Rs 1.55 lakh. Complementing this, Tata Motors introduced various customer incentives. The Nexon is now accessible at an introductory price of Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), enhancing its appeal.
The Nexon has been a consistent performer in the compact SUV segment. It witnessed sales of 1.24 lakh units in FY22, followed by 1.72 lakh units in FY23 and 1.71 lakh units in FY24. Though there was a slight dip to 1.63 lakh units in FY25, demand remained solid. Nearly 90,000 units were sold in the initial half of FY26.
A key attribute of the Nexon is its comprehensive range of fuel options: petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric. The petrol version features a 1.2L turbo engine with 120bhp, with a choice of gearbox configurations. The diesel model is equipped with a 1.5L engine, delivering 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. The CNG variant utilizes a 1.2L engine, producing 100bhp and featuring a 6MT gearbox. The Nexon.ev offers 30kWh (350km range) and 45kWh (489km range) battery options, catering to different consumer needs.
Safety is a crucial aspect of the Nexon’s design. All petrol, diesel, and EV versions have been awarded a 5-star rating by Bharat NCAP. Key features include LED projector headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a voice-controlled sunroof, wireless charging, 6 airbags, ESP, a 360° camera, a blind-spot monitor, tire pressure alert, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, and cornering fog lamps.
Tata Motors achieved its highest monthly sales in September 2025, recording 60,907 units, driven by the Nexon’s strong performance. The company’s Q2 FY26 sales reached 1.44 lakh units, reflecting a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the EV segment saw a record, with 24,855 electric vehicles sold, which represented 17% of the total PV sales. Exports surged by 411%.
With its competitive pricing, diverse fuel choices, robust safety features, and contemporary amenities, the Nexon has established itself as Tata Motors’ most reliable model. The September 2025 sales data underscores the Nexon’s leading position in the Indian compact SUV market.
