Chandrasekhar Pole, a student from Hyderabad, has been murdered in Dallas, United States. The 27-year-old was fatally shot while working at a gas station on Friday night. The family, reeling from the shock, has requested the Indian government’s assistance to bring his body back to India.
Pole had gone to the US in 2023 to pursue higher education after completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Hyderabad. He finished his Master’s six months ago and was employed part-time to support himself while seeking full-time opportunities.
The Indian Consulate in Houston is working with local authorities and in contact with the family. The Consulate expressed their condolences and offered support, ensuring that they are actively involved in the investigation. Telangana’s Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, has also offered his condolences and assured the family of governmental assistance.
BRS MLA Sudhir Reddy and former minister T. Harish Rao met with the family in Hyderabad to offer their support. Harish Rao described the immense grief of the parents. The death certificate from the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office is awaited before the process to repatriate the body can begin.
This tragic event in Dallas sheds light on the continuing safety concerns faced by international students who are working part-time in the US, especially at night. Other instances of violence against Indian nationals in the US are also brought into focus. A shooting in January took the life of a student from Telangana, and other incidents, including one in Ranga Reddy and another in California, add to the ongoing anxieties about the safety of Indians in the US.
