Raipur, October 7, 2025/ The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved four important railway projects worth ₹24,634 crore. Among the approved projects is the Gondia-Dongargarh fourth rail line project with a cost of ₹2,223 crore, which will provide new momentum to the industrial and commercial development of the western region of the state.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav for this important approval. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is making this ambitious project a reality. Chhattisgarh is rapidly advancing on the path of development due to the dedicated efforts of the “Double Engine Government.” He said that this decision is not only a historic step towards the development of Chhattisgarh but will also provide new energy to the economy of entire Central India.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the country’s railway network has entered a new era of modernity, speed, and public convenience. The continuous cooperation received by Chhattisgarh in this direction will form a strong basis for the industrial and economic expansion of the state.
It is noteworthy that the 84-kilometer-long project will pass through Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) and Gondia (Maharashtra) districts. It is targeted to be completed in five years. Under the project, 15 major bridges, 123 minor bridges, 1 tunnel, 3 Road Over Bridges (ROBs), and 22 Road Under Bridges (RUBs) will be constructed.
In the aspirational district of Rajnandgaon, this project will not only facilitate passenger movement but will also give a new direction to local trade and investment. This railway line will breathe new life into the regional economy and strengthen Chhattisgarh’s industrial landscape.
Upon completion of the project, an additional freight traffic of approximately 30.6 million tons per year will be possible. This will increase railway revenue and provide significant relief to the state’s industrial units in the transportation of raw materials and finished products. Additionally, it will result in a reduction of an estimated 23 crore kg of CO2 emissions, savings of 4.6 crore liters of diesel, and a reduction in logistics costs of approximately ₹514 crore, which will have a very positive environmental impact. This initiative will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to about 1 crore trees annually, which is a big step towards sustainable development.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the new railway line will increase the speed of coal transportation from the mines of Raigarh, Mand, Korba, and Ib Valley, ensuring regular supply to thermal power plants in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. This will provide stability to the state’s mineral economy and logistics system.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Gondia-Dongargarh fourth rail line project will provide a strong foundation for better transportation facilities, industrial progress, and environmental balance for the people of Chhattisgarh. This project is a historic initiative to accelerate the all-round development of Chhattisgarh and move towards the goal of “Vision Developed Chhattisgarh 2047.”
