
India is set to enhance its aerial defense capabilities with the acquisition of state-of-the-art lightweight multirole missiles from the United Kingdom, following a landmark deal valued at $468 million. These missiles, known as the Martlet, are a product of advanced British engineering, capable of high-speed engagement and operating effectively within a 6 km range. Primarily utilized for air defense, the Martlet system was initially designed for naval applications but has demonstrated versatility in various combat scenarios. This agreement represents a significant step in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defense manufacturing, while also fostering a long-term partnership with the UK in the realm of complex weapons. The acquisition will ensure India’s armed forces are equipped with cutting-edge technology to counter emerging threats.
