A routine IndiGo flight from Tuticorin to Chennai experienced an alarming mid-air situation on Monday when a crack was observed on the aircraft’s windshield. The ATR 72 aircraft, carrying 75 passengers, executed a safe landing at Chennai Airport following prompt communication between the flight crew and air traffic control. Chennai ATC immediately initiated precautionary measures, including a local standby, to manage the situation effectively. The flight crew’s swift action ensured that the landing proceeded smoothly, with no adverse effects on the passengers or the aircraft. IndiGo has assured that the aircraft will undergo rigorous checks and necessary repairs before resuming operations, reiterating that passenger safety is paramount. Notably, this is the second such incident involving an IndiGo ATR aircraft in a span of four days, raising concerns that are now being investigated by aviation authorities. The DGCA is expected to thoroughly review the technical aspects of both incidents.
