Singer Chinmayi Sripaada has rallied to the defense of 10-year-old Ishit Bhatt, a contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, who has become the subject of widespread online vitriol. Ishit’s interaction with host Amitabh Bachchan was perceived by many on the internet as arrogant, leading to him being branded the ‘most hated kid.’
The young contestant from Gujarat was eliminated from the game show without winning any prize money after he incorrectly answered a question about the Ramayana. His conduct on the show, however, has drawn more attention than his game performance, resulting in a torrent of negative comments.
Sripaada denounced the online attacks, labeling the critics as a ‘horrible bunch of bullies.’ She shared her thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighting the hypocrisy of adults targeting a child. ‘An adult putting a tweet saying most hated *kid*,’ she posted, contrasting this with the lack of outcry from the same online community regarding more serious child welfare issues. She concluded, ‘This entire lot is picking on one over excited kid – what a horrible bunch of bullies these have raised themselves to be.’
The viral episode featured Ishit, a fifth-grader, cutting off Amitabh Bachchan and stating, ‘I’m familiar with the rules, so don’t explain them to me.’ His remarkable self-confidence extended to rushing through answers before Bachchan could present the multiple-choice options.
However, Ishit’s bold approach didn’t lead to a big win. After correctly answering the first four questions, he faltered on the fifth question, valued at Rs 25,000, which was related to the Ramayana. This error meant he left the hotseat with no money.
The incident prompted discussions about upbringing and parental guidance. Many online comments suggested that Ishit’s behavior reflected a lack of manners and humility, urging parents to teach children these essential values. Some felt his unsuccessful run on the show was a fitting lesson.
