The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially declared its candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections, which are slated to occur in November alongside the Bihar state elections. Significant nominations include Aga Syed Mohsin for the Budgam constituency in Jammu and Kashmir and Babulal Soren for the Ghatsila seat in Jharkhand. These contests are expected to be closely watched as they offer insights into the political landscape in the respective states.
Across the nation, by-elections will be held on November 11 in eight assembly constituencies located in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Odisha, and Mizoram. The official announcement of the election schedule and candidate lists underscores the imminent political activity. Vote counting will take place on November 14.
The BJP has put forward Aga Syed Mohsin for Budgam (constituency 27) and also potentially for Nagrota (constituency 77) in Jammu and Kashmir, where Sushri Devyani Rana is also listed. In Jharkhand, Babulal Soren will contest from the Ghatsila (ST) constituency (45). Jay Dholakia is the party’s candidate for Nuapada (constituency 71) in Odisha, and Lankala Deepak Reddy will represent the BJP in Telangana’s Jubilee Hills (constituency 61).
The vacancies have arisen from a mix of circumstances. In Budgam, the seat became available after Omar Abdullah chose to keep his Ganderbal seat. Nagrota’s by-election is being held after the passing of sitting BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana. Rajasthan’s Anta constituency will see a bypoll following the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena. The Ghatsila seat in Jharkhand is vacant due to the death of JMM leader Ramdas Soren. In Telangana, the Jubilee Hills seat is open following the demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. Punjab’s Tarn Taran seat by-election is a result of the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal. Odisha’s Nuapada seat is vacant after the passing of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, and Mizoram’s Dampa seat by-election is due to the death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo.
