
A significant corruption scandal has rocked Punjab’s police force with the arrest of Ropar DIG Harcharan Bhullar by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The arrest, a result of a meticulously planned operation, saw Bhullar apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe. The CBI’s investigation was triggered by a complaint, which led to a broader probe encompassing multiple locations linked to the DIG. It is understood that Bhullar had established a modus operandi for extorting money for an considerable time. He was caught red-handed accepting ₹5 lakh from an individual from Fatehgarh Sahib, who had lodged a complaint against the officer. According to the complainant’s account, the DIG demanded a substantial sum to resolve a pending case and had instructed the complainant to deliver an initial payment at his Mohali office. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the CBI laid a trap and arrested Bhullar during the bribe exchange. The CBI also executed search warrants at Bhullar’s residences in Ropar and Chandigarh. This operation is reportedly the culmination of about ten days of sustained surveillance aimed at uncovering and arresting corrupt officials.
