Babulal Marandi, a key opposition figure in Jharkhand and the state BJP chief, has formally requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren to address the rampant illegal stone mining in Sahebganj’s Borio district. The focus of his letter is Satyanath Sah, accused of orchestrating extensive illegal stone quarrying operations. According to Marandi, Sah’s mining activities far surpassed the permitted four-acre lease, extending to approximately 20 acres. A preliminary investigation conducted under the auspices of the Sahebganj Deputy Commissioner has purportedly validated the allegations of widespread illegal mining. Marandi has calculated the potential revenue loss to the Jharkhand government from this alleged fraud at around ₹200 crore. He is urging the Chief Minister to initiate a thorough probe, impose severe penalties on Sah, and recover the defrauded funds. The opposition leader also stressed the urgency of halting all illegal mining and implementing protective measures for whistleblowers.
