Donald Trump is demanding that the Department of Justice launch a formal probe into the 2020 U.S. presidential election, asserting it was rigged and declaring it the “biggest scandal in American history.” The former president has not ceased in his claims of fraud since his electoral loss to Joe Biden, despite facing widespread disagreement from election officials and legal rulings.
Trump has publicly advocated for a return to traditional election methods, pushing for the elimination of mail-in and early voting options. He strongly supports implementing voter ID laws to enhance election security and prevent what he describes as fraud. Additionally, he has taken aim at California’s Proposal 50, which concerns the redrawing of congressional districts.
In a social media post, Trump characterized the 2020 election as a “far bigger SCANDAL” than perceived, and expressed his hope that the DOJ would investigate with the gravity and “gusto” befitting such a serious matter. He cautioned that without such scrutiny, similar issues could resurface in upcoming elections, including the midterms.
He reiterated his position against “Early” Voting and mail-in ballots, emphasizing the importance of voter ID. Trump also voiced apprehension about California’s Proposition Vote, citing concerns about the large-scale movement of ballots.
The controversy surrounding the 2020 election continued long after the results were certified, with Trump consistently alleging a stolen election. This backdrop is linked to the January 6th Capitol incident, where a significant number of Trump supporters entered the building during the electoral vote certification.
