A potentially devastating accident was narrowly averted on Sunday along the Torpa main road in Khunti, close to Gupta Hardware. A trailer truck, parked on the roadside by Mahadev Fruit shop, began to move on its own. The driver was reportedly buying fruit when the vehicle started rolling backward. The trailer traveled a considerable distance of approximately 200 meters before striking a tempo that was parked ahead. The collision was powerful, leading to the complete wrecking of the tempo. In addition to the vehicular damage, a nearby electricity transformer suffered damage due to the impact. Miraculously, no individuals were harmed in the accident, avoiding a much graver scenario. Alert locals rushed to the scene to assist and notified the electricity board. Police have since arrived, examined the area, and filed a report. According to onlookers, the road was busy with people when the trailer began its uncontrolled descent, highlighting the luck involved in avoiding injuries. The Torpa police have impounded the trailer for further inquiry.
