An unnerving traffic incident unfolded on the Torpa Main Road in Khunti on Sunday, near the Gupta Hardware shop, narrowly missing a major catastrophe. The sequence of events began when a trailer truck driver parked his vehicle by the roadside, near Mahadev Fruit shop, to go buy some fruit. In his absence, the truck inexplicably began to roll backward. It continued its uncontrolled descent for roughly 200 meters, eventually colliding with a tempo that was parked ahead. The collision was substantial, rendering the tempo beyond repair. The powerful impact also caused damage to an adjacent electricity transformer. Fortunately, the incident concluded without any loss of human life, a significant relief given the circumstances. Alert local residents were instrumental in managing the immediate situation and alerting emergency services and the power company. Law enforcement arrived, examined the scene, and have taken the trailer into custody. Witnesses stated the road was bustling, emphasizing the critical role played by bystanders in preventing injuries. The trailer has been seized by Torpa police.
