Mark your calendars! The WPL 2026 mega player auction will be held in New Delhi on November 27. This historic event is set to be a major focal point for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League. Sources close to the development have confirmed the date and the national capital as the host city.
The BCCI has officially informed all five franchises about the November 27 auction. Discussions regarding the venue have led to the selection of a high-end hotel in Aerocity, as the initially considered Bharat Mandapam is occupied with the India International Trade Fair.
All WPL teams have a critical player retention deadline approaching on Wednesday. The retention policy permits a maximum of five players: three capped Indian, two overseas, and two uncapped Indian players. If five players are retained, one must be an uncapped Indian. The total auction purse is set at INR 15 crore.
Financial allocations for retained players are structured with distinct slabs. Furthermore, the Right to Match (RTM) option will allow franchises to retain players from their previous squads, with a limit of five RTMs per team. The number of RTMs available will be inversely proportional to the number of players retained.
Key dates for the auction process include a player registration deadline of November 18 and the release of the final auction pool on November 20. The recent Women’s ODI World Cup victory for India is anticipated to influence player retention strategies, potentially prompting teams to reconsider their retained lists to include prominent World Cup performers.
