
On his 98th birthday on Saturday, veteran BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani received a cascade of warm wishes and accolades from prominent political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Advani, a foundational figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a recent recipient of the Bharat Ratna, was celebrated for his extensive contributions to India’s political and social fabric.
Prime Minister Modi described Advani as a statesman possessing “towering vision and intellect,” whose dedication has deeply influenced India’s development trajectory. He commended Advani for embodying “selfless duty and steadfast principles,” underscoring the lasting impact of his work on the nation’s democratic and cultural spheres. The Prime Minister wished Advani excellent health and longevity.
Amit Shah spoke of Advani as a guiding inspiration for countless party cadres, emphasizing his consistent ‘Nation First’ philosophy throughout his organizational and governmental roles. Shah credited Advani with effectively strengthening the BJP across India and bolstering national security.
BJP National President J.P. Nadda lauded Advani’s life as a beacon of “integrity, ethics, and patriotism,” highlighting his dedication to party building and nurturing new leaders. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed these sentiments, portraying Advani as a devoted leader committed to national welfare whose public service and organizational prowess serve as a profound example.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also paid tribute. Singh recognized Advani’s integrity and conviction in serving the nation, noting his significant role in enriching India’s democratic landscape. Chouhan described Advani as a symbol of service who played a crucial part in the BJP’s growth from its roots.
Advani’s political legacy, significantly shaped by his collaboration with Atal Bihari Vajpayee in forming the BJP, includes spearheading the pivotal 1990 Rath Yatra. His tenure as Deputy Prime Minister further cemented his status as a towering figure in Indian politics, admired for his strategic acumen and enduring commitment to national progress.
