A patrol operation in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district turned dangerous on Sunday when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured by a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast. The explosion occurred at 1:45 PM in a forested area near Gogunda, under the Fulbagdi police station. The jawan, belonging to the 74th Battalion, accidentally activated the IED, sustaining injuries to his legs. Emergency medical aid was provided at the location, and he was later airlifted to Raipur for comprehensive treatment. Naxalite groups are known to strategically place IEDs along forest paths in the Bastar region, including Sukma, as a tactic to target security forces during anti-insurgency operations. The danger posed by these explosives extends to civilians as well. This incident echoes a prior event on June 9, when an IED explosion in Sukma resulted in the death of an Additional Superintendent of Police and injuries to two colleagues.
