A strong India A bowling unit was left stunned as South Africa A pulled off a magnificent chase, successfully hunting down a daunting 417-run target in the second unofficial Test. The Proteas A side achieved this remarkable victory with three overs to spare, demonstrating exceptional composure and batting skill against a bowling attack featuring several players earmarked for international duty.
Commenting on the thrilling encounter, Ravichandran Ashwin lauded the visiting team for their ‘stellar chase.’ He specifically mentioned the aggressive batting displayed by South Africa A’s captain, Jordan Hermann, who was adeptly handling pressure from India’s top bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav. Ashwin recognized Hermann as a rising star in South African cricket, noting his participation in the T20 league.
The chase was significantly boosted by a substantial 156-run opening stand. While opener Lesego Senokwane anchored one end, Jordan Hermann provided the impetus with his attacking strokeplay. Even after losing crucial wickets, South Africa A’s batsmen maintained their scoring rate. Zubayr Hamza’s rapid 77 and Temba Bavuma’s steady 59 were pivotal. The late surge from Esterhuizen and van Vuuren ultimately sealed the victory for South Africa A, preventing any late comeback from the Indian side.
